Connecting the Industry: Inside PromoStandards
PromoStandards committees work together to improve how technology, data, and integrations operate across the promotional products industry.
Here’s a quick look at what each committee has been working on and what it means for your business.
Best Practices Committee:
Best Practices focuses on reducing friction in standards adoption so development teams can work faster and more efficiently.
- SAQ Outreach:
The Best Practices Committee has been focused on increasing participation in the Self‑Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ.) While all members are encouraged to participate, please keep an eye on your inbox, as we may have contacted you regarding the initiative! Expanded outreach is also underway to supplier contacts, along with efforts to better track participation and drive completion across the broader supplier community.
- Credentials, Rate Limiting, and More:
Documentation has seen progress in several areas, including updates to rate limiting and credential security guidance, enhancements to OSN 2.1 scenarios and XML examples, and ongoing work on Inventory and Invoice best practices. Did you see our social highlight on the importance of implementing rate limits?
The committee also discussed evolving PPC 1.0 best practices, with work underway to standardize guidance around part groups, optional packaging, and configuration scenarios.
- Plans to Meet, Progress on FAQ:
Best Practices is moving forward with the development of a centralized FAQ/knowledge base as well as onboarding materials. Planning is also underway for an in‑person meeting scheduled for September 16–17 in Texas.
- Want to get involved? New workgroups are being discussed, such as early planning for an AI/Automation initiative for Best Practice resources! Please keep an eye out for future updates.
Standards Committee:
The Standards Committee works diligently to develop, maintain, and continuously improve PromoStandards technical integration specifications that enable accurate, consistent, and efficient data exchange across the promotional products industry.
- PromoStandards in Chicago:
A huge thank you to HALO Branded Solutions for hosting our Standards Committee’s in-person meeting this month! Nine members of the committee were joined by 2 remotely to discuss and finalize their approach to REST service design, standards, and authorization. The team also took action items to complete the enumerations database and build a callable API over that data which can be used by the PromoStandards community to map and validate data across all suppliers. The Standards Committee was also able to take in the sights of Chicago, and enjoyed a Cubs game together at the iconic Wrigley Field.
- Event Subscription Service:
Last month’s testing has concluded and the team is currently making revisions based on the results. The event subscription standard is expected to be presented to Advisory members for review by the end of July.
- Product Data 3.0 & JWT:
A test plan is being prepared for the REST version of Product Data. Our advisory member should keep an ear out for testing to open up shortly! Advisory members are also encouraged to check the Advisory Workgroup slack channel to review the JWT authentication proposal. The team would like all feedback to be provided by June 30th.
- What this means for you: The release of JWT is just around the corner, and advisory members will be able to get hands-on with REST based services by the end of the season!
Membership & Marketing Committee:
The Membership & Marketing Committee’s goal is to grow the PromoStandards network and ensuring our members get the latest tech industry updates.
